Miller has provided leadership and exceptional professional
direction as our Township Asessor.
There
are statutory, pre-election requirements
in order to become Assessor, which is more accurately
an appraiser. In larger jurisdictions, an Assessor candidate
must hold the Certified Illinois Assessing Officer designation,
while in smaller jurisdictions, a basic course of instruction
approved by the Department of Revenue is required.
1.
Review all the property to be assessed and then value
it.
2.
Determine the market value of all properties (Residential,
Commercial, Industrial, Farms, etc.).
3.
Keep set of up-to-date assessment maps showing size, shape,
and location of each parcel of land.
4.
Keep current records on each property.
5.
Keep up with the market values.
6.
Keep up with any changes in property characteristics and
to the construction of new properties.
7.
Help property owners on all Homestead Exemptions.
8.
Submit a budget request to the Township Board annually.
9.
Keep up on new and old legislation.
10.
Help on all appeals or defend all appeals.
11.
Continue education courses each year.
12.
Be available to assist all property owners.
